Academy for Ideal Education

Once upon a time, a DC public school teacher dreamed about an ideal school where children (and adults) would learn to be happy and would be happy to learn. She envisioned a place that taught basic skills to one, or in small groups. She envisioned a place which nurtured the growth of the whole person in body, mind and spirit.

In the fall of 1979, that teacher, Rev. Paulette Bell-Imani, brought her dream into the world of form by opening the Academy for Ideal Education, a holistic tutorial and enrichment center. With the help of Lorrd Lorenzo Calender, II, who joined the program in 1981, the Academy for Ideal Education grew into a well known force in the quest for Ideal Education in the Washington community.

The Academy has offered and continues to offer classes, tutorial workshops, and seminars to hundreds of individuals and scores of groups, organizations, and businesses throughout Washington, D.C. and the surrounding areas. Our clients have included persons from all walks of life, from welfare recipients to professional executives to U.S. congressmen. The most important client, however, is your child, for we believe that there is an Ideal person in each and every student.

In 1991, Rev. Paulette Bell-Imani, with the assistance of the charter board, Karen Tibbs, Lorenzo Calender, II, and Pamela Copeland, expanded the Academy for Ideal Education to include a full-time, spiritual based educational program for pre-primary to 7th grade students. The emphasis is on the development of the whole person in body, mind and spirit.

The Ideal Alternative School was opened in the fall of 1993. The Ideal Alternative School offers a level IV special education program for boys between the ages of 12 and 18 years of age. The school serves boys with learning and/or emotional disabilities.

In the past 15 years, the Academy for Ideal Education has come from a dream to a reality. The Ideal educational system continues to be a place of visions, a place where Ideal education is the goal.
